Author Notes for 2005-03-12

Posting Strip 11 feels even better than posting Strip 10 -- as my Dad, the marathoner, will tell you, it's one thing to reach a milestone, and another thing to pass it and keep on going. And even though Strip 11 is pretty silly in terms of content (and given the histrionics and technobabble of the last several strips it does seem necessary to downshift for a week), it's useful in that it closes out the new-body thread and returns us to the main story, and from here on in things get hairy.

We're now live on both onlinecomics.net (which has a 10-strip minimum) and thewebcomiclist.com. I'm fascinated by the ranking system at WCL: GZ has been up there since Strip 3, and even though my traffic hasn't really changed (and I'm still the favorite of no one) my ranking at WCL has gone from past #1,000 to #136 in just a few weeks. There's a headscratcher. Is 90% of the WCL dead flies and doodles? That's the only way my little strip could be ahead of them. Seriously though, from what I've seen of other strips this ranking system is kinda volatile, and I'm naturally curious to see how the numbers flop around in coming weeks. But I'm glad to have GZ at both listings, and both have an automatic new-posting feature, so you can see from the GZ page at either site when my last update was.

As promised there is now an About page, with characters, plot, author bio, and links to other webcomics. The comics I have linked to are the ones I check regularly, but I'm no authority on great webcomics, and a there are a lot of strips I would probably love but can't see because of the filters they have set up at work (which is where I do all my GZ stuff, late Friday nights). Some stuff at Keenspot is blocked here, for example, and that's a big blow to getting an accurate survey of good stuff. A few of the comics I've linked to were brought to my attention by Zeke, the hoopy frood who runs the excellent Five Minute Voyager Star Trek parody site, so a shout-out to him. In one case I've linked to the archives because the strip itself is no longer in service but I still think it's worth reading (that would be 1/0 by Tailsteak). Included are strips that don't need any pimping from me, including Sluggy Freelance, which is nothing short of a marvel and a daily miracle. The list will definitely grow.

Suggestions, comments, questions, and criticism are always welcome. Please use the form at right to email me (yes, a comments feature is coming in the near future); there's an identical form on the About page. My inclination at this point, by the way, is not to institute a forum, since it seems to me that forums take on a life of their own with only a subset of the site's fans. That might be cool later on (when there are fans). Commenting (ahem) and email will be enough for now.

Legal stuff and all that. Enjoy the site, no copying without asking, thanks. Cool extras coming soon.
